There’s no denying that the San Antonio Spurs have struck gold when they landed Victor Wembanyama in the draft. And with most of the regular season done, it seems that the rookie has just begun his reign of terror in the NBA.

Just recently, the Brooklyn Nets travelled to the Moody Center in Austin, Texas to face the San Antonio Spurs. Turns out, the Wembanyama-led team was more than ready to get the win over them.

The French rookie showed what makes him special in a 122-115 overtime win over the Nets. In 36 minutes on the court, Wembanyama posted 33 points on 53 percent shooting from the field, 15 rebounds, seven assists, and seven blocks. This makes him the first player to record such numbers in the NBA.

Helping San Antonio get the win was Devin Vassell’s 25 points, two rebounds, and eight assists. Meanwhile, the Nets had Cam Thomas lead them with 31 points, three rebounds, five assists, and two steals. Dennis Schroder added 19 points and seven assists in his team’s loss.

Even with Wembanyama’s dominant performance, the Spurs are still last in the Western Conference with a 15-53 record. Brooklyn, on the other hand, are 11th in the East with 26 wins and 42 losses.

San Antonio Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama Drops Bold Declaration That Will Shake the NBA

After the game, all the talk revolved around Wembanyama’s historic night. With numbers posted below by the NBA’s account on X, there’s no denying how great of an impact he can make for San Antonio.

During a press conference, the Spurs rookie dropped a bold take that should merit attention from teams around the league. In a pair tweets by JeffGSpursKENS5 and Tom Orsborn on X:

“Wembanyama says there are always steps to his development, it’s a day by day thing and he’s not at close to being his best on the court,” JeffGSpursKENS5 tweeted.

“NBA beware: “I’m not even close to being at my best,” Wemby said.”

As it stands, the pieces around Wembanyama aren’t enought to elevate the rookie and San Antonio. With more experience and a potentially-better supporting cast in the coming years, there’s no reason for the French rookie not to dominate in the NBA.

Even with the worst record in the West, there’s no question San Antonio’s future remains bright because of Wembanyama. In any case, NBA teams should pay more attention to how he will developd in the coming years.
