Scottie Barnes and Immanuel Quickley have both officially re-signed with the Toronto Raptors.
The Raptors announced that Barnes signed an extension and Quickley re-signed with the team this morning.
The team also unveiled a new slogan: The “future starts now” Barnes and Quickley will hope to lead the Raptors into the next era of success.
Barnes signed a max five-year extension worth a minimum of $225 million, that could balloon to $270 million if he makes an All-NBA team, All-Defensive team or earns MVP honors.
Meanwhile, Quickley inked a five-year deal worth $175 million.
The deals were announced at a news conference this morning. Raptors president Masai Ujiri, Gradey Dick, Davion Mitchell, Bruce Brown and Ochai Agbaji were all in attendance.
Barnes is coming off a tremendous 2023-24 season. He averaged 19.9 points, 8.2 rebounds, 6.1 assists, 1.5 blocks and 1.3 steals in 60 games. These were all career high marks for the 22-year-old. He made his first All-Star appearance, becoming the youngest Raptor since Chris Bosh in 2006 to earn the honour.
Ujiri talked about how the Raptors are proud of Barnes, via a press release:
“Today is a special day for the Raptors organization. We are so proud of Scottie for the player and leader he has become over his first three seasons. I’ve said before that he is the type of player you build a team around. Well, we are doing that. Scottie’s love for Toronto and Canada is unbelievable, and his commitment in our shared vision to win another championship is incredible. Together, our future starts here. It starts now.”
Quickley blossomed as a starting point guard with the Raptors. He averaged 18.6 points, 6.8 assists, 4.8 rebounds in 38 games with Toronto last season. He was acquired along with RJ Barrett in a blockbuster deal that sent O.G. Anunoby to the New York Knicks.
Ujiri made it clear that Quickley is indeed the Raptors point guard of the future, via a release:
“Immanuel embodies so many things that are important to our team. He’s incredible – smart, athletic, driven. He works so hard. He loves the game of basketball. And ultimately? He wants to win and he will be a Raptor for years to come. We are very high on I.Q. — our point guard of the future.”
Raptors announce 2024 Summer League roster
The next chapter for this young Toronto Raptors team is NBA Summer League.
The team recently announced its 16-player roster ahead of their first matchup against the Oklahoma City Thunder on July 13.
