The Charlotte Hornets just can't stay healthy. That's been the theme for two years now and even the new guys aren't safe.
In the fourth quarter of last Friday's game against the Philadelphia 76ers, Hornets guards Seth Curry and Cody Martin left with sprained ankles and did not return. Curry's injury looked a little less promising, considering he needed the help of his teammates to get off the floor. Martin was able to walk off and down the tunnel under his own power.
Monday evening, the Hornets announced that both Curry and Martin are not only out for Tuesday's clash with Orlando, but will be re-evaluated in two weeks.
Assuming nothing changes with their expected recovery time, they will miss the next eight games which features matchups vs. Orlando, at Washington, vs. Brooklyn, at Detroit, at Memphis, vs. Phoenix, at Philadelphia, and at Orlando. They will have three full days off in between the game in Orlando on 3/19 and the date with the Atlanta Hawks on the road on 3/23.
Two weeks is the minimum, however. It's very likely that both will take a little longer as that's when they'll enter the next step in their return to play protocol.
In eight games since being traded from Dallas to Charlotte, Curry is averaging nine points, two rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game, shooting at a 44% clip - 32% from downtown.
Martin's presence on the defensive end has really helped Charlotte be more competitive on a a nightly basis and was a big reason in their four-game winning streak in February.
