Shaquille O’Neal says he'd make 'Rudy Gobert money' if playing at age 42

Shaquille O'Neal is 13 years removed from his last NBA game. He retired after playing in 37 games during the 2010-11 season at age 38. But on the latest episode of "The Big Podcast with Shaq," the now-52-year-old called out Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert by making a strong statement about his stats.

O'Neal stated if he were 10 years younger, he'd be pulling in the type of money Gobert is getting based on his numbers.

"If I was 42, I'd be making Rudy Gobert money. 12 points and eight rebounds? I could do that sh** right now. And it's not a diss, it's a fact. Making $250 [million], god d---. Averaging 12 points,” O'Neal said.

While Gobert averages 13.7 points and 12.9 rebounds per game this season, the initial part of O'Neal's point was likely more in relation to one of Gobert's recent games. The 31-year-old had eight points and 11 rebounds in a 118-100 win over the Los Angeles Clippers on Tuesday night. He also posted an eight-point, eight-rebound game to wrap up the month of February in a 110-101 win over the Memphis Grizzlies.

It's certainly a hot take from O'Neal. But considering the 15-time All-Star and four-time NBA champion made $292 million total in NBA contracts throughout his career (per Yahoo Finance), there'd be plenty of motivation for a 42-year-old Shaq to get in great shape and try to collect one lofty final payday. Unfortunately for the man known as "Diesel," he's a few years late on that pipe dream.
