The Philadelphia 76ers had an eventful week that was full of wins. The Sixers took care of business against all four opponents which included the Houston Rockets, Denver Nuggets, Orlando Magic, and Charlotte Hornets. Philadelphia is now riding a red-hot five-game win streak after Joel Embiid returned to action. The 76ers are 28-13 as the three-seeded team in the Eastern Conference and are looking to continue to make a run as the post-season approaches.
A Statement Week for the Sixers
The 76ers started the week with a home win against the Rockets on Monday in which Embiid dropped a 41-point, 10-rebound game to boost the team to victory. The next day, Philadelphia hosted the reigning champs in the Nuggets along with star big man Nikola Jokic. This game was back-and-forth throughout the first three quarters, but Embiid took over in the fourth as the Sixers outscored the Nuggets 27-17 to take a 126-121 victory. Embiid finished with 41 points and 10 assists shooting 13 for 22 (59.1%) from the field.
After a two-day break, the Sixers went on the road to play the Magic and came away with a 124-109 win. Embiid got his with 36 points, but Tyrese Maxey tacked on 32 on 50% shooting from the field and 40% from three. Lastly, Philadelphia took on Charlotte on the road to pick up their fifth-straight win. Embiid scored 33 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in the 97-89 win, and the team held the Hornets in check defensively.
Philadelphia Looks to Extend Its Win Streak
This week, the 76ers tackle the San Antonio Spurs at home, the Indiana Pacers on the road, and the Nuggets once again. The Spurs present as an “easy” opponent on paper, but the Victor Wembanyama-led Spurs have split in games played so far this year. On Thursday, the new-look Pacers with Pascal Siakam will host Philadelphia in hopes of climbing the ranks in the Eastern Conference. Finally, the Nuggets and Jokic will look to get revenge Saturday evening on national television. This week, specifically the Pacers and Nuggets, will be especially challenging, but if the Sixers can pull out wins this week, it will put the league on notice.
