Sixers president called out over handling of Tobias Harris trade talks

Philadelphia 76ers president Daryl Morey has made his fair share of blockbuster trades, big offseason moves and crucial decisions throughout his years in the NBA. But it appears his handling of one specific situation this offseason may be creating a bit of tension.

As Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer reported, the Sixers are receiving plenty of calls about the availability of Tobias Harris this offseason.

While Pompey reports the team has been "adamant" that they're not willing to trade him unless it drastically improves their roster, the calls just keep coming. The current list, per the report, includes the Cleveland Cavaliers, Indiana Pacers, Detroit Pistons, Phoenix Suns, Utah Jazz and Dallas Mavericks.

There haven't even been rumblings surrounding a possible trade involving Harris to this point, and part of that reason may be due to the fact that Morey isn't just swinging for the fences - it sounds like he's trying for a moonshot.

Per Pompey:

A source said Sixers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey “isn’t negotiating in good faith.”

The comments make at least some level of sense, more in the fact that Morey and the Sixers seem ready to simply tell teams 'no' when it comes to a trade than lower the value of what they want back in return. Considering what The Inquirer and Pompey reported the Sixers told the Cavaliers it would require in exchange for Harris.

Last week, sources told The Inquirer the Sixers are overvaluing Harris and asking for “outrageous packages in return.” That goes in line with what a source said the Sixers told the Cavs what it would take days before the draft: A package of Jarrett Allen, Evan Mobley, and a draft pick.

There's no potential outlook where the Cavs would accept that trade, as both players are young with upside and Mobley was the team's No. 3 pick in the 2021 NBA Draft.

Based on that report alone, the likelihood of the Sixers opting to trade Harris this offseason seems about as low as any player who's been mentioned in trade discussions to this point.

Either Morey lightens up the asking price, or Harris remains with the team as they try to get over the hump and make a push toward the NBA Finals.
