After a surprising amount of time, the Sixers have agreed with the 53rd pick in the draft, Charles Bassey, on a three-year deal.

Well, it certainly took longer than anyone expected, but Charles Bassey has finally signed with the Philadelphia 76ers. According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, the big man out of Western Kentucky has agreed to a three-year deal.

As Charania reported, the first year in the deal is fully guaranteed while the second is partially guaranteed, and finally, the third is non-guaranteed. Derek Bodner of The Athletic wrote nearly two weeks ago that Bassey was seeking a guarantee on the second year of the proposed three-year deal, and it seems the partial guaranteed was the way to split the difference.

Bassey’s time at Western Kentucky was certainly impressive. Enough so that he was able to play a little hardball with the Sixers when it came to his contract. According to Bodner, Bassey received an offer with a multi-year guarantee from a team should he go undrafted, giving the young center a bit of extra ammunition in the conversation.

While the negotiations were long and likely fierce, the most important thing is that Charles Bassey is now, officially, a member of the Philadelphia 76ers.

This signing means that the Sixers roster is now full less than a week before training camp. While there’s still no guarantee that this will be the roster the Sixers boast ahead of their first came, it is somewhat of a sense of closure, even if it is just a minor storyline of the Sixers offseason.
