Two-and-a-half decades after his father was playing against the Vancouver Grizzlies, Scotty Pippen Jr. is now playing for the Memphis Grizzlies, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

The 23-year-old guard is getting a two-year, two-way contract from Memphis, allowing him to play for both the Grizzlies and their G League affiliate, the Memphis Hustle.

Scotty Jr., the son of Basketball Hall of Famer Scottie Pippen, was a three-year standout in college at Vanderbilt, earning two First Team All-SEC selections. He went undrafted in 2022 but signed with the Los Angeles Lakers, averaging 2.3 points per game in six appearances. Scotty Jr. was waived by the Lakers before the 2023-24 season but would later rejoin their G League team, the South Bay Lakers.

While Scotty Jr.’s upside isn’t as high as it was once thought to be, the Grizzlies need all the help they can get right now. Ja Morant, Steven Adams, Brandon Clarke, Desmond Bane, Derrick Rose, and Marcus Smart are all currently on the injured list for Memphis.

Scotty Jr. obviously won’t be the Grizzlies’ savior, but he can get minutes right away and in a situation far less awkward than his previous one.
