Shaquille O’Neal may have competition for the “Petty White” nickname.

Former Brooklyn Nets guard Mike James turned on the hot take stove this week and called Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry “one-dimensional” on an episode of the Players Choice podcast. James ranked Curry outside of his top five current NBA players, listing Kevin Durant, LeBron James, Joel Embiid, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Luka Doncic above Curry.

“Steph, like, how he plays and how he gets stuff off, it’s just kind of one-dimensional at times, if that makes sense,” said James.

James did add though that Curry is a “superstar” and might be a top-10 player of all-time but credited the play of Klay Thompson and Draymond Green as contributing factors to Curry’s greatness. Here is the full clip.

James’ comments made their way back to Curry, who returned fire during an appearance at his Curry Camp in San Francisco. Curry joked that he would be a problem for any of his campers to handle “even as one-dimensional as I am,” adding a wink and smile for good measure.

Of all the things that you can call Curry, “one-dimensional” is probably not one of them, especially after his fourth NBA title and first Finals MVP. The 34-year-old is already the greatest 3-point shooter of all-time but cannot be overplayed by defenders up top due to his elite driving and close-range finishing ability (as evidenced by Curry’s picturesque 52.0% on 2-point shots for his entire career). Curry will also get you over six assists a night, has one of the best handles in the league, and has become a very improved and underrated defender as he has added bulk with age.

Basketball ability aside though, Curry is the eye in the sky as he sees and hears everything this offseason. A couple weeks ago, Curry put to shame another opponent who was dogging on him during a different podcast.
