Stephen Curry challenges WNBA star Sabrina Ionescu to three-point shootout

The stage is set to determine the world's greatest shooter -- a showdown basketball fans won't want to miss.

Golden State Warriors shooting maestro Stephen Curry may have finally encountered a worthy adversary in New York Liberty's sniper, Sabrina Ionescu.

Curry spoke about a possible face-off with Ionescu while speaking with Warriors rookie Brandin Podziemski before Thursday's clash against the Sacramento Kings. "I think I got to challenge her," Curry said.

"Exciting competition planned," The Athletic's Shams Charania wrote on X. "A 3-point Shootout between Golden State's Stephen Curry and WNBA NY Liberty star Sabrina Ionescu at NBA All-Star Weekend in Indianapolis, sources say."

Ionescu, not Curry, boasts the highest score ever in a three-point contest with 37-of-40 possible points. She achieved the feat during the 2023 WNBA All-Star event in July, hitting an astounding 20 consecutive shots, marking one of the most impressive shooting performances in basketball history.

While Curry is a two-time three-point contest champion, his highest score in a single round caps at 31 points, significantly trailing behind Ionescu's record-setting performance.

Ionescu played a pivotal role last season, propelling the Liberty to the WNBA Finals, where they eventually fell to the reigning champions, the Las Vegas Aces. Ionescu showcased her prowess from behind the arc throughout the season, shooting 44.8 percent on 7.8 attempts. In comparison, Curry is shooting 40.2 percent from three on 11.4 attempts this season.

On Feb. 17, during All-Star Weekend, the basketball universe will be captivated as Curry and Ionescu go head-to-head. When the dust settles, only one will reign supreme as the best shooter in the world.
