It has been announced that local rock gods Metallica will christen Chase Center, the Golden State Warriors’ new home starting next season, with a concert alongside the San Francisco Symphony this fall. Amid the big news, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr opted to show his support for the iconic band.

The news of the concert, scheduled for Friday, Sept. 6, was the first of several scheduled announcements during the Warriors’ “Reveal Week,” during which several high-profile events slated to occur at the team’s new billion-dollar palace will be announced.

Kerr, presumably excited by the news, rocked a Metallica shirt ahead of Monday night’s game against the San Antonio Spurs.

Metallica has long boasted strong ties to the Bay Area and the greater region’s sports teams, including the San Francisco Giants and San Jose Sharks.

The notion that the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers will blow out the doors at the Warriors’ new arena ahead of the 2019-20 NBA season is hardly a surprise given the band’s Bay Area history.

What is shocking, though, is that Steve Kerr apparently is a behind-the-scenes metalhead, although it would not be the first time a figure from the world of sports surprised us with their hard rock-leaning musical tastes.
