Star forward Kevin Durant has played just three games for the Suns, but that’s all about to change.

Per Shams Charania of The Athletic, Durant is expected to make his return from an ankle sprain on Wednesday, when the Suns host the red-hot Timberwolves.

Durant, 34, suffered the injury in the most unlikeliest of ways, landing awkwardly while going in for a layup during pregame warmups. Durant is expected to make the Suns even more of an Eastern Conference contender, but injuries have been a bit of an issue for him over the course of the past three or four seasons.

He arrived in a February trade with the Nets with the idea being to help lift guards Chris Paul and Devin Booker and the others to a championship.

The Suns (40-35) entering Tuesday night in fourth place in the West, having gone 3-0 in the games in which Durant has played.

Durant is averaging 26.7 points in those three games with Phoenix, and 29.5 points, 6.8 rebounds and 5.2 assists in 42 games overall. He is shooting 57 percent from the field and 39 percent on 3-pointers, as well as a sizzling 93 percent on free throws.
