Free agent center Udoka Azubuike is signing a two-way contract with the Suns, agent Mark Bartelstein told Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

The former Kansas Jayhawk appeared in 36 games for the Jazz last season, when the third-year player averaged 3.5 points and 3.3 rebounds in 10 minutes per game.

The Nigerian big man was drafted by Utah with the 27th pick in the 2020 NBA Draft and has received limited playing time during his first three seasons. Azubuike is a post player with a well-built frame and brute strength that enables him to be a force in the paint.

Furthermore, the 23-year-old showcases decent leaping ability at 280 pounds, allowing him to effortlessly play above the rim while utilizing his long arms to grab rebounds and contest shots.

Despite still being raw and unrefined, the 6-foot-11 center has explosive power and does not shy from contact, showing he can stand his ground against other NBA centers. With that in mind, the Suns may look to develop the former Big 12 Player of the Year to become a reliable rotational piece or a defensive matchup counterpart.

After the Suns decided not to extend backup center Jock Landale a qualifying offer for 2023-24, they have signed multiple centers this offseason. In addition to Azubuike, they have brought in Drew Eubanks, Bol Bol, and fellow Nigerian Chimezie Metu. Most notably, after acquiring Bradley Beal via trade, the Suns are looking to balance their loaded backcourt with frontcourt pieces to pair with Deandre Ayton this upcoming season.
