The Phoenix Suns are currently on a clear collision course with the Dallas Mavericks.

As the halfway point of the NBA season passes, the league is getting ready for an epic 2022 Western Conference semifinal rematch between the two “rivals.”

In case you need a reminder, the Mavericks stormed past the Suns in a despicable Game 7 performance from Phoenix. The 33-point victory ended the Suns franchise’s best 64-win season and left many questions surrounding the future of the team.

Now, the landscape looks completely different.

At the trade deadline, the Dallas Mavericks acquired eight-time All Star Kyrie Irving from the Brooklyn Nets. Making the Mavs a series threat in the West by giving Luka Doncic a much-needed sidekick.

So, what did the Suns do?

Well, they went ahead and acquired Kyrie’s teammate, a 13-time All Star, and one of the NBA’s best shooters, Kevin Durant.

The perfect script for a rematch. Two Western Conference rivals who are coming off a heated playoff seven game series and have now both improved with former Nets’ teammates.

To say these two teams are close in the standings is an understatement.

Currently, the Dallas Mavericks and the Phoenix Suns both hold a 31-27 record; the Mavs, however, hold the higher seed due to having the season advantage over the Suns, going 2-1 thus far.

A quick rundown of how close these two teams really are…

  • Suns home record: 19-9
  • Mavs home record: 19-9
  • Suns away record: 12-18
  • Mavs away record: 12-18
  • Suns conference record: 20-14
  • Mavs conference record: 23-14
  • Suns PPG: 112.7
  • Mavs PPG: 112.9
  • Suns opponents’ PPG: 111.3
  • Mavs opponents’ PPG: 112.2

Fans will get the first opportunity to watch these two teams battle it out with their new and improved rosters on Sunday, March 5th.

And then again, hopefully, in the Western Conference playoffs.
