From time to time, Sam Hauser reminds Boston Celtics fans how great of an asset he is for the team’s; bench. Take for example his performance on Monday against the Charlotte Hornets on the road. In the Celtics’ 118-104 win versus the lowly Hornets, Hauser manufactured 25 points in just 24 minutes of action.

He sizzled from behind the arc, draining seven 3-pointers on 11 attempts. Overall, Hauser shot an efficient 9/13 from the field and also had five rebounds.

No one is saying that Hauser is an absolutely vital piece for the Celtics, but his ability to heat up instantly from deep and space the floor even when his shots aren’t falling could play a huge role in the success of the Eastern Conference powerhouse in the playoffs.

Top 5 in threes off the bench this season.

On a team with the likes of Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum, Jrue Holiday, Derrick White, and Kristaps Porzingis, it’s really not that easy for the former Virginia Cavaliers to stand out. But again, it’s the unheralded pieces that sometimes spell the difference between winning and losing in the postseason.

“I think just layers of our offense is what unleashes him,” Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla said of Hauser after the Hornets game (via ESPN).

“The guys understand that he’s a weapon in different ways, and so when we get to the second and third layer of our offense, especially when teams are guarding us a certain way, it really unleashes guys like Sam. And his teammates continuing to trust him and find him within the layers of our offense.”
