The Wizards have a coaching problem

The Washington Wizards were on a six-game winning streak less than a week ago. But that seems like a distant memory after the last two nights.

Blown leads have been par for the course for the Wizards lately, who many may remember lost after holding a 35-point lead last season against the Clippers.

The common denominator here is head coach Wes Unseld, Jr., who routinely makes poor rotational decisions and gets out-adjusted during games. The last two nights, opposing guards have been allowed to score at will against Washington in the second half.

Ever since the arrival of Kendrick Nunn via trade, Unseld has played him over Jordan Goodwin, a much better defensive stopper. Meanwhile, Daniel Gafford has been held off the floor in pivotal moments despite being one of the Wizards' most important players.

When Unseld was brought in as Washington's new head coach, there was much excitement due to his father's status as arguably the team's all-time greatest player. But hiring a recognizable franchise name also comes with a big risk if it doesn't pan out -- just look across town at Patrick Ewing.

Through a year and a half of the Wes Unseld, Jr. era, results have been disappointing. No one is expecting the Wizards to be title contenders, but they continually lose games they have no business losing.
