Three additional Grizzlies games postponed due to COVID-19

The Memphis Grizzlies will remain idle through at least Monday night.

Memphis has confirmed that three additional games have been postponed because the team won't be able to dress the required league minimum of eight healthy and available players due to the NBA's COVID-19 protocols.

As a result, a contest versus the Portland Trail Blazers and a back-to-back against the Sacramento Kings were postponed. The Grizzlies were also unable to face the Trail Blazers on Wednesday because of coronavirus-related setbacks.

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski is reporting that the NBA "is erring on the side of caution with what still appears to be isolated COVID-19 exposure within the Grizzlies" and added that it doesn't yet appear Memphis is dealing with an outbreak. The Washington Wizards haven't played since Jan. 11 and have had six consecutive games called off after at least seven players and one staff member tested positive for the virus.

Washington was cleared to resume practices on Wednesday night.

In total, 20 NBA games have been postponed because of COVID-19 setbacks since the season tipped off on Dec. 22. Memphis defeated the Phoenix Suns 108-104 on Monday and is next scheduled to host the Chicago Bulls on Jan. 27. It's unknown if the Grizzlies will complete adequate practice time to play that game.
