Three-time NBA champion 'waiting for trades' before making next move

Danny Green has become the ideal veteran wing for contending teams in recent years. Over the last five seasons, Green has bounced around the league, winning two of his three championships in the process. This past season, the veteran wing split his time between the Memphis Grizzlies and the Cleveland Cavaliers - both young teams with hopes of breaking into the list of NBA contenders.

However, Green is once again a free agent. We're almost at the halfway point in the offseason, which means most teams have done the majority of their roster reconstruction. Yet, Green remains unattached. During a recent interview on 'The Hoop Chat,' Green revealed that he's unlikely to receive a contract offer until some of the current trade sagas around the league reach their conclusion.

"I'm not with a team right now," Green said. "It's moving slow. When you're the old guy coming off injury, the phone doesn't ring as much. So, I have to get back and prove that I'm healthy again. We'll see how that route goes. Just waiting to see where the trades land and where the spaces free up. Figure it out from there. Maybe some people think I'm done - I'm not done playing. I'm not going to transfer over to the media side for another couple of years."

Green, 36, will likely field multiple calls in the coming months. Contending teams around the NBA will value his championship experience. Green is also a career 40% 3-Point shooter and would instantly slide into most team's bench rotation as a catch-and-shoot threat. Green will likely sign a veteran minimum deal, which means the financial hit of adding him to a contending team will be minimal.

However, front offices will certainly want assurances that Green's recent injury troubles are behind him. If Green can prove that he's back to full fitness, there will likely be multiple opportunities for him before teams begin to enter their training camps.
