It has been some time since Derrick Rose of the New York Knicks was considered one of the best guards in the league.

However, there was a time when he was easily one of the most well-respected and celebrated guys in the NBA.

He even won Rookie of the Year in 2009 and league MVP back in the 2010-11 season.

Yes, Rose isn’t the player he once was but that’s asking a lot of him since he used to be an incredible, unparalleled talent.

A video clip of him playing for Simeon Career Academy is making the rounds online and it shows Rose dominating with a wild and stunning lay-up shot that has to be seen to be believed.

It was the sort of play that we used to see often from Rose.

Sadly, it’s not something we will see from him again.

Retiring Rose

Rose has been playing in the NBA for 13 years now, bouncing around from the Chicago Bulls to New York Knicks, Cleveland Cavaliers, Minnesota Timberwolves, Detroit Pistons, and then back to the Knicks, where he plays now.

Back in the day, he was putting up 25 points a game.

But since a knee injury during the 2010-11 season, Rose’s output has diminished over time.

Last season, he put up 12 points, 3 rebounds, and 4 assists, which isn’t awful by any means but isn’t close to his past accomplishments.

Rose only played in 26 games last season and it’s been years since he played more than 50 games in a year.

There is no doubt that age and injuries have caught up with Rose but that cannot change the fact that he used to be a one-of-a-kind athlete.
