Thunder PG George Hill out at least four weeks following thumb procedure

Oklahoma City Thunder guard George Hill is on track to miss all of February.

The club confirmed on Tuesday that the 34-year-old underwent a minor procedure to repair a mallet finger injury of his right thumb. The surgery occurred at the Kerlan-Jobe Institute in Los Angeles, and the Thunder added that Hill will be re-evaluated in four weeks.

Per the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, a mallet finger injury, also known as "baseball finger," leaves an individual unable to properly straighten the tip of the injured finger on his own.

Hill last played during the 108-100 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers on Jan. 24 and has missed four consecutive contests. The Thunder went 2-2 across those four outings.

In 14 games this season, Hill averaged 11.8 points, 3.1 assists and 2.1 rebounds while shooting 50.8% from the field and 38.6% from three-point land.

According to RotoWire, Hill's continued absence should mean additional playing time for rookie Theo Maledon. Maledon averaged 13.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.0 steals over the past four games.

The Thunder host the Houston Rockets on Wednesday night.
