Thunder rookie Chet Holmgren to miss 2022-23 season with Lisfranc injury

The Oklahoma City Thunder's Chet Holmgren will miss his entire rookie season after suffering a Lisfranc injury, the team announced Thursday.

Holmgren, 20, was the second overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft and starred at Gonzaga for one season. The seven-footer wowed a month ago when he debuted in the Summer League and scored 23 points with seven rebounds, six blocks and four assists against the Utah Jazz.

"Certainly, we are disappointed for Chet, especially given the excitement he had about getting on the floor with his teammates this season," Thunder general manager Sam Presti said in a statement. "We know Chet has a long career ahead of him within our organization and the Oklahoma City community. One of the things that most impressed us during the process of selecting Chet was his determination and focus. We expect that same tenacity will carry him through this period of time as we work together and support him during his rehabilitation."

The Thunder were among the worst teams in the NBA last season, finishing with a 24-58 record. While the team added Holmgren along with three other draft picks -- Ousmane Dieng, Jalen Williams and Jaylin Williams -- expectations were low for the team in 2022-23 amid a long-term rebuild.
