Thunder's latest roster addition is another sign of impending playoff run

The Oklahoma City Thunder continue to build out their roster ahead of a potential deep playoff run. According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Thunder are acquiring Bismack Biyombo to bolster their big man depth.

Biyombo played 30 games for the Memphis Grizzlies earlier this season. He averaged 5.2 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.7 assists. He shot 56.3% from the field. Biyombo will likely be a depth option for the Thunder. He will be tasked with providing insurance for Chet Holmgren.

The Thunder currently sit top of the Western Conference. They have taken the NBA by surprise as multiple members of their young core have taken a developmental leap this season. Holmgren's addition to the rotation has also elevated the franchise's ceiling. Biyombo will provide the big physical body the roster has been missing and will ensure they have a match-up option when playing some of the more robust teams in the league.

Oklahoma isn't expected to be an NBA Finals team this year. However, after adding Gordon Hayward at the February 8 trade deadline and then bringing in Biyombo, it's clear they're looking to make a deep run in the postseason.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is among the best young players in the league. He will likely relish playing on the biggest stage the NBA has to offer. The Thunder can't be taken lightly. They're going to be a problem for whoever they face in the playoffs.

And what's scary is that many of their players will still get better. For now, though, Biyombo and Hayward will help bridge the experience gap. This is another smart piece of business by their front office.
