The Oklahoma Thunder announced on Wednesday that former NBA MVP Russell Westbrook has undergone successful arthroscopic surgery on his right knee.
“The Thunder, Westbrook and his representation determined that after he experienced inflammation in his knee this past weekend that the best course of action was the proactive procedure, performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache with Thunder medical personnel present at the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Los Angeles,” the team announced, via its official website.
Westbrook will be evaluated once again in four weeks to see if he’s ready to return to the court. Said timeline makes it questionable that Westbrook will be available for Oklahoma City’s regular season opener against the Golden State Warriors next month. As of now, we can count him out for the entire preseason slate.
This can’t be considered great news for the Thunder. Sure, missing the preseason and one or two regular games isn’t a huge deal. The issue here is that it could be a lingering injury for the former league MVP.
