The craze surrounding “The Last Dance” has found its way into the sports memorabilia market, as a ticket from Michael Jordan’s NBA debut has sold for huge money at auction.
According to Huggins & Scott Auctions, a ticket stub from Jordan’s debut with the Chicago Bulls in 1984 yielded a $24,907 winning bid at a recent auction, as relayed by Darren Rovell of Action Network.
Jordan’s debut came on Oct. 26, 1984 in the Bulls’ season-opening game against the then-Washington Bullets. Jordan put up 16 points, six rebounds and seven assists in a 109-93 loss. 13,913 fans were in attendance that night at Chicago Stadium, which had a capacity of 17,374.
It goes without saying that “The Last Dance” — the 10-part ESPN docuseries that chronicled Jordan’s career and his final season with the Bulls and turned into a pop culture phenomenon — injected rabid interest in His Airness-related memorabilia. To illustrate as much, a pair of Air Jordan sneakers sold for $560,000 at auction earlier this month.
What’s more, a ticket stub from the very same game that generated the nearly $25K winning bid this week sold for only just over $8,000 last year.
It’s not only MJ memorabilia that has created a bidding frenzy at auction of late, either, as other coveted items from across the sports world have elicited record-breaking sales as well.
