Timberwolves' Anthony Edwards in hot water over alleged chair-throwing incident

Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards is in hot water stemming from an incident involving two security guards at Ball Arena in Denver.

According to Jake Shapiro of Denver Sports, police cited Edwards for third-degree assault following a chair-throwing incident immediately after the Timberwolves' Game 5 loss to the Denver Nuggets.

Edwards, who missed a potential game-tying three-pointer at the buzzer, can be seen on video running down the tunnel and aggressively tossing a chair before going out of view. The chair allegedly hit one security guard in the back before making contact with another. Per the report, both guards were injured and asked to file charges.

Edwards faces up to 18 months in jail and a fine of up to $1,000 if prosecuted.

The Timberwolves released a short statement on the matter shortly after the news broke.

"We are aware of the alleged incident regarding Anthony Edwards following Game 5 in Denver and are in the process of gathering more information," the press release read. "We have no further comment at this moment."

Edwards, a first-round pick of the Timberwolves in the 2020 NBA Draft, recently wrapped up his third season in Minnesota. The 21-year-old earned his first All-Star nod during the 2022-23 campaign, recording career-highs in points (24.6), rebounds (5.8), assists (4.4) and shooting percentage (.459), playing in 79 games for the Timberwolves.
