The 2020 NBA Draft is mere hours away, and now we’re hearing some big-time rumors regarding two of the top-four picks in the annual event.
That includes the Minnesota Timberwolves potentially trading out of the first overall pick with the Chicago Bulls for the fourth selection.
This would certainly shake up the foundation of the top of the first round Wednesday evening. It’s no secret that Minnesota is looking to move the first selection. As of yet, we had not heard any concrete rumors surrounding the first pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.
It seems to be pretty clear that the Bulls are looking to jump the Warriors at two for former Memphis center James Wiseman. At this point, those around the league believe Golden State is locked in on Wiseman with guard Anthony Edwards going to the Timberwolves at one.
This trade would shake everything up and likely force the Warriors to seek offers for the second pick before they are on the clock in the matter of hours.
Any move would likely require Chicago giving up former lottery pick, center Wendell Carter Jr. He could team up with Karl-Anthony Towns to form a solid due in the frontcourt for the Wolves.
In return, Chicago acquires guard Jarrett Culver from the Wolves. Both are said to be on the trade block. However, the Bulls would obviously have to throw in more. Here’s how we envision a trade working out ahead of the NBA Draft:
- Bulls get: First pick and Jarrett Culver
- Timberwolves get: Fourth pick, Wendell Carter Jr., 2021 unprotected first-round pick
Chicago would have to add that 2021 first-round pick in order to entice Minnesota. There’s no way the Wolves see Carter as that much better than Culver to move down three spots without picking up more compensation.
If this trade were to come to fruition, the question then becomes whom Minnesota targets at four. Adding Carter to the mix in this hypothetical trade suggests a wing is a need. That’s where stud Israel small forward Deni Avdija would come into play.
