After the Phoenix Suns were eliminated from the NBA postseason, Chris Paul’s name quickly popped up in rumors. As he enters his late 30s, the team might be looking to move on from the Hall of Fame guard.

With the new pairing of Devin Booker and Kevin Durant, the Phoenix Suns are looking to compete right now. Chris Paul can be an effective piece when he is on the floor. There have been multiple recent playoff runs that have been thrown off course because the veteran guard can’t stay healthy. With that in mind, the Suns and their new owner are exploring all avenues to get better.

At this stage of his career, the market for Paul is probably going to be thin. However, there is one middle-of-the-pack Western Conference team that might be interested. Recent betting odds had the Minnesota Timberwolves as a potential landing spot for the former All-Star point guard.

If these two teams were to engage in talks, it would likely center around point guards. Phoenix would be shipping out Paul in exchange for Mike Conley and some filler. While Conley is also up there in age, he makes sense for the Suns from a fit perspective and comes at a much cheaper price.

The Minnesota Timberwolves have proven they are not scared to take a big swing in the trade market. They shocked many last year when they executed a blockbuster deal to bring in former Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert. If Paul is being shopped, the T-Wolves could make a call out of due diligence.

From a fit standpoint, CP3 makes sense for the Timberwolves. For starters, he is a proven leader, which could help them take the next step. Also, as the “point God,” his playmaking ability could elevate the play of Anthony Edwards, Rudy Gobert, and Karl-Anthony Towns.

It would certainly be a gamble for Minnesota, but after sacrificing all their assets in the Gobert trade, they need to do something to get closer to contention.
