Are the Timberwolves looking to deal the No. 1 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft? Jesse Johnson-USA TODAY Sports

Timberwolves open to trading No. 1 overall pick?

Many teams would be thrilled to land the first overall pick in the NBA Draft, but with no clear-cut superstar in this year's class, the Minnesota Timberwolves are exploring all options.

According to The Athletic's Sam Vecenie, many around the NBA expect Minnesota to entertain the idea of trading their first-overall pick in this year's draft, should the right offer be made.

The top picks in the draft just don't seem to suit Minnesota's needs. The Timberwolves just added point guard D'Angelo Russell, so they have no need for LaMelo Ball. Malik Beasley's 2019-20 campaign was solid, so replacing him with Anthony Edwards doesn't seem to be an option. Minnesota also wouldn't take James Wiseman, either, as they already have a talented center in Karl-Anthony Towns.

No suitors have made themselves known yet, though the New York Knicks could potentially become a trade partner due to their interest in Ball. However, it'll be hard for the Timberwolves to trade the first-overall selection because the Golden State Warriors are reportedly considering trading their No. 2 pick for veteran help.

Minnesota could still keep their first-overall pick, but at this point, it doesn't seem likely. The Timberwolves finished toward the bottom of the Western Conference standings with a 19-45 record, and adding some talented veterans could prove to be better than adding an unproven rookie.
