Jaylen Nowell was initially the 43rd pick in the 2019 NBA Draft and has spent the first four seasons of his NBA career with the Minnesota Timberwolves.
This summer, the former Washington star became a free agent, available to sign with any team in the league.
Over three weeks into free agency, he still remains unsigned.
On July 23, Darren Wolfson (via his podcast "The Scoop with Doogie") reported that the Timberwolves would not be re-signing Nowell (h/t HoopsHype).
Wolfson via his podcast: "No, he is not coming back to the Wolves. There's a mutual understanding that, hey, time for Jaylen to move on."
Wolfson went on to mention the Dallas Mavericks as a possible destination for the 24-year-old.
Nowell has proven to be a dependable scorer off the bench.
In each of the previous two seasons, the Timberwolves have made the NBA playoffs, and he has played a significant role.
Last year, the Timberwolves were the eighth seed in the Western Conference with a 42-40 record (they lost to the Denver Nuggets in the first round).
Nowell averaged 10.8 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.0 assists per contest while shooting 44.8% from the field in 65 regular season games (he also played in all five NBA playoff games).
Nowell would be an excellent addition to the bench of any team trying to contend for the 2024 NBA Championship.
In addition, he is still very young, so he could also be a good fit on a rebuilding team with a bigger role.
