Timberwolves superstar pays $50K for a chair

Taylor Swift tickets are going for as much as $11,000. Anthony Edwards had to pay $50K for a seat he didn't even sit in.

The NBA announced that Edwards was fined $50,000 for "recklessly swinging a chair" after a playoff game in Denver on April 25.

Here's another angle of the "reckless" act.

Denver police cited Edwards for two counts of misdemeanor assault against two arena workers, a charge that was rightfully dismissed last month. His attorney argued at the time:

"With the game over, Anthony’s exit from the court was partially obstructed by a chair, which he moved and set down three steps later. As video of the incident confirms, Anthony did not swing the chair at anyone and of course did not intend to hurt anyone."

While it may have been reckless, it's hard to argue that Edwards' act was malicious. His team got eliminated, a chair was in his way and he got frustrated. But the NBA likely felt it had to crack down because he made contact with arena workers, and players making contact with anyone is a big no-no.

At least we know the budding superstar can afford it. He signed a five-year max extension last month that could be worth as much as $260 million. While we don't expect him to do it again any time soon, the new deal does mean Edwards could pay the fines for more than a thousand chair swings going forward.
