Tomas Satoransky is returning to the Washington Wizards. Satoransky and his current team the San Antonio Spurs have agreed to a contract buyout, clearing him to sign with the Wizards, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

The Wizards have a roster spot and need at point guard. Following the trades of Spencer Dinwiddie and Aaron Holiday and the season-ending wrist injury to Bradley Beal, the Wizards’ point guard depth shrunk.

Raul Neto inserted into the starting lineup. Ish Smith, who the team acquired in the Montrezl Harrell trade with Charlotte has served as the backup.

By adding Satoransky, the Wizards now have three true point guards on the roster. They also have height beyond 6-foot-1 at the position. Satoransky registers at 6-foot-7.

The Wizards drafted Satoransky in the second round in 2012. He spent the next four years playing in Spain before ultimately joining the Wizards in 2016.

Satoransky played three seasons with the Wizards. He averaged 6.6 points and 3.7 assists in 210 games, including 87 starts. However he left the Wizards for the Chicago Bulls in the Summer of 2019 in a sign-and-trade deal.

In his first season with the Bulls, Satoransky averaged 9.9 points, 5.4 assists and 28.9 minutes. All of which are career-highs. He followed up the 2019-20 season with another solid year in 2021, averaging 7.7 points and 4.7 assists.

Despite a pair of strong seasons, Chicago traded Satoransky to the New Orleans Pelicans before the 2021-22 season.

His stint with the Pelicans lasted 32 games before he was traded to twice in two days. First he landed in Portland on Feb. 8 as part of the CJ McCollum trade. Then he was shipped to the Spurs a day later.

Friday Satoransky played in his first game with San Antonio. Coincidentally, the game was against the Wizards. He scored three points in nine minutes in the double overtime thriller.

At 27-32, the Wizards are just one game back for 10th and the final play-in tournament spot in the Eastern Conference.
