Towel Kobe Bryant wore during farewell speech sold for insane money

The towel Kobe Bryant wore over his shoulders during his farewell speech in 2016 and tickets to his final game were sold at auction for more than $30,000, reports CNN's Amanda Jackson.

Bryant scored 60 points in his final game with the Los Angeles Lakers on April 13, 2016, and left fans with a speech that ended with, "Mamba out."

As he left the court, a fan grabbed the towel off his shoulders and eventually sold it for $8,365 in 2016.

The new towel owner resold it through an Arizona-based company that specializes in memorabilia. It finally sold at auction for the price of $33,077.16 to David Kohler, who collects Lakers memorabilia and has the largest collection of such merchandise in the world. He also shelled out $30,000 earlier in March for a 1992 Bala Cynwyd Middle School yearbook signed by Bryant.

The Arizona-based company, which Kohler has bought many items from, said his long-term plans are to open a Lakers-themed museum in Southern California.

Bryant and his 13-year-old daughter Gianna were among nine people killed in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, Calif. earlier this year.
