Trae Young surpasses Stephen Curry and Damian Lillard with his amazing feat

Trae Young hasn’t been in the national spotlight since his Atlanta Hawks reached the Eastern Conference Finals in 2021. Since then, the rising superstar has been flying under the radar, in large part because his team has struggled to match up with the powerhouse teams in the East.

The Hawks’ struggles have also meant that Young has been snubbed from All-Star games and All-NBA selections in recent years – even while putting up monster numbers on a nightly basis. Consider that Young averages 25.7 points and 9.5 assists for his career, numbers that even Nikola Jokic, Luka Doncic, and LeBron James haven’t maintained as career averages.

As he quietly goes about stuffing the stat sheet, Young reached a career total of 10,000 points during the Hawks’ 109-99 win over the San Antonio Spurs on Monday, becoming the 10th youngest player to reach the milestone, surpassing Bob McAdoo (25 years, 137 days).

More impressively, Young became the fastest player in NBA history to reach the unique trifecta of 10,000 points, 3,500 assists and 1,000 3PM, doing so in 390 career games. Young shattered the previous benchmark set by Stephen Curry (513 games) and Damian Lillard (553 games).

Besides the assists, Young – at 25 years and 118 days old – also surpassed Jayson Tatum as the second-youngest player to reach 10,000 points and 1,000 3PM. The Celtics star was 25 years and 246 days while reaching the same milestone.

Young is averaging 27.5 points and a career-high 10.9 assists in his sixth season with the Hawks. Yet, his 16-23 squad continues to remain outside the play-in picture, a year after after finishing with a .500 record.
