A ticked off Steve Nash complained to officials about Trae Young during a recent showdown between the Atlanta Hawks and Brooklyn Nets.
What was it that irritated the Nets head coach? Well, Young has developed a habit of getting a pick set for, working to get his defender directly behind him and then just stopping in place. The defender inevitably runs into Young from behind and is called for a foul.
When Young busted this trick out against Brooklyn, Nash took exception to it.
“That’s not basketball,” he could be seen saying to an official.
Young’s nifty maneuvering is working out well for him so far this season. He is averaging 13.2 free throw attempts a game, more than James Harden’s 12 or Giannis Antetokounmpo‘s 10.5.
Through five early season outings, Young has shot 66 free throws – the most in the NBA.
Although Nash might not like the way Young draws fouls against his team, per league rules, there is nothing wrong with it. Grayson Allen may not be a fan, but that is no reflection on Young.
It’s very much basketball, and it’s one of the things that has made the Hawks an absolute force in the early going of the season.
