Tyler Herro fires back on Heat trade rumors

Since being selected No. 13 overall out of Kentucky in 2019, Tyler Herro has done a lot of good on the NBA hardwood. The Miami Heat guard earned Sixth Man of the Year honors in 2022, has been a part of two Eastern Conference championship teams and is riding back-to-back 20-plus PPG campaigns.

Yet despite his accolades, Herro was dangled in trade discussion throughout much of the summer — most of which circulated around the Portland Trail Blazers and their disinterest in acquiring him.

Speaking with Couper Moorhead of NBA.com, Herro addressed his perceived value across the league and where he envisions his stock rising by season's end.

"The only people that really know are the ones in the front offices making the trades and ultimately deciding whose value is what," Herro said. "I feel like I’m pretty damn valuable. I don’t know. I feel like I’m valuable as hell. At the end of the day, I’m going to show that this season and hopefully by the end of the season I’m going to be in the same boat as Bam (Adebayo)."

Ultimately, Herro is correct. While his playoff production has dipped in three consecutive seasons when compared to his regular-season output, Herro is still a highly valuable offensive asset. A 38.3% career shooter from three, Herro has been Miami's most consistent scoring threat behind Jimmy Butler — including Adebayo.

However, Adebayo's more well-rounded game and defensive expertise make the big man the more valued player over Herro in the franchise's eyes.

With Adebayo and Butler practically off limits in all trade discussions, the 23-year-old Herro will continue to find himself at the forefront of trade talks as the Heat look to get over the hump of two NBA finals losses in four seasons.
