At 2023 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, the league’s newest class got to showcase their skills with all eyes on them.

For most, it was a way to build confidence and get some run before the first stage of their careers.

Cam Whitmore, the No. 20 pick in 2023, came away with MVP, Jazz guard Keyonte George showcased his dynamic offense, the Thompson twins displayed their high-flying athleticism and French phenom Victor Wembanyama put together a strong final performance.

But Taylor Hendricks, Utah’s ninth overall selection in the 2023 NBA Draft who didn’t play in Summer League due to injury, shouldn’t be forgotten amongst the hype generated.

Drafted out of UCF, Hendricks has premier potential as a 3-point shooting, shot-blocking forward in the NBA. With the Knights, he averaged 15.1 points, 7.0 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.7 blocks per game while shooting 48 percent overall and 39 percent from beyond the arc on 4.6 attempts.

While he didn’t get a chance to showcase those skills in Las Vegas, Hendricks was drafted within the top ten for a reason: he’s got the potential to be a strong two-way forward in the NBA.

Alongside players like Lauri Markkanen, Jordan Clarkson, Walker Kessler, Ochai Agbaji and fellow rookies George and Brice Sensabaugh, Hendricks is sure to carve out an easy role for himself in the NBA. All while honing skills that could elevate him even further: his handle, passing and general scoring.

Hendricks will finally get a chance to make his Jazz debut in preseason. Next year, he could quickly come into a starting role with solid enough 3-point shooting.
