Veteran forward Andre Iguodala returns to the Warriors for 19th season

Veteran Andre Iguodala announced that he's returning to the Golden State Warriors for his 19th NBA season. Normally this news would come from Woj or Shams, but Iguodala decided to break the news on his own podcast, The Point Forward.

Iguodala won his fourth title with the Warriors last summer, after a year where injuries limited him to just 31 games. It was his seventh trip to the Finals in eight years, since Iguodala also made it there in 2020 with the Miami Heat, after the Warriors dealt him in a salary dump. In 2015, his first trip, he won the Finals MVP award for his stellar play guarding LeBron James.

The Warriors were cautiously optimistic that Iguodala would return, holding a roster spot open for him throughout free agency. He spent the summer making up his mind about returning - or waiting for the maximum impact for his podcast, which he began recording earlier this year with former teammate Evan Turner. Don't worry, Point Forward fans - he also announced that the podcast was coming back.

It's likely that the 38-year-old Iguodala, the league's second-oldest player behind Miami's Udonis Haslem, will have serious limits on his playing time. No back-to-backs, lots of load management, minute slimits when he does play. But the Warriors value Iguodala for his leadership and mentoring abilities as much as his defense and playmaking abilities. The move puts the Warriors roster at 14 players, leaving them the option of adding from the training camp roster or simply waiting for signings within the season.
