Veteran guard Avery Bradley signs with Warriors after workout

The news comes after ESPN's Marc J. Spears reported earlier this week that Bradley was set to work out for Golden State. 

Bradley was a free agent this offseason after spending the 2020-21 campaign with the Houston Rockets and Miami Heat. According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, Bradley was "very much open" to returning to Miami for the 2021-22 season, but the feeling wasn't mutual. 

The 30-year-old appeared in 27 games last season, 17 for the Rockets and 10 for the Heat. He was hobbled by a calf strain and also missed time after testing positive for COVID-19 in January. 

Despite his recent history, Bradley is still regarded as one of the better defenders in the NBA and is a leader in the locker room.

Golden State was in need of some backcourt depth with Stephen Curry entering his 13th NBA season and Klay Thompson returning from a torn ACL and Achilles tear that caused him to miss each of the last two seasons. 

Curry averaged a career-high 32 points last season while carrying most of the scoring load with Thompson sidelined. Although Bradley isn't known as a scorer, he'll be able to take the pressure off Curry and enter in relief when need be. 

Bradley is entering his 12th NBA season. He won an NBA title with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020 and has also played for the Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Clippers, Detroit Pistons and Memphis Grizzlies.
