Warriors GM Bob Myers is unsigned for next season

Bob Myers joined the Warriors organization in 2011 as assistant general manager, they year the team drafted Klay Thompson and traded Monta Ellis for center Andrew Bogut. He took over the GM job a year later - the same year the Warriors drafted Draymond Green and Harrison Barnes. Aside from Steph Curry - the most important component, drafted in 2009 - Myers built the teams that won four NBA titles from 2015-22.

Warriors owner Joe Lacob told ESPN, "We love Bob and hope he is here for a long time," while Myers told ESPN he was focusing on the current season.

Myers could be a free agent at the end of the season, a rare occurrence for top NBA executives. If Myers wants a different NBA job, he'd likely have his pick of destinations, perhaps even as president of basketball operations.

Neither the Warriors or Myers has publicly expressed unhappiness, but it's not the first time Lacob has let a valued executive's contract expire. Jerry West left the Warriors for the Clippers in 2017, though West said he didn't want to leave. The Warriors have been wildly successful under Myers' tenure, but they went from doormats of the league to two-time champions while West was there as well.

The Warriors are looking at some big decisions in the offseason. Green can opt out of his contract, and with Curry, Thompson, Andrew Wiggins, and Jordan Poole all making more than $24 million in 2023-25 (Curry's making nearly $52M), the team has some decisions to make and a potential half-billion dollar luxury tax bill. And now, they also have a decision on their GM.

Lacob continues to maintain that the Warriors won't decide anything until the summer. He went on "Warriors Live" before the season and denied the team was in a "Last Dance" situation, a la Michael Jordan's last season on the Bulls. Lacob said, "We'll see how everything goes this year and then we'll worry about this all next summer."
