Warriors' Klay Thompson announces he'll play Sunday for first time since June 2019

Klay Thompson is back.

The Golden State Warriors guard announced his return Saturday with an Instagram post showing a "Space Jam" clip. The team quickly confirmed the news on Twitter with a clip showing Thompson saying, "Dub Nation, I'm back."

Thompson is expected to play Sunday night against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

"I hate to use the phrase 'Can't wait' because I love to be present in my life, but I cannot wait to play in front of our fans again. I really, really enjoy being a Warrior," Thompson said in another tweet posted by the team.

Thompson, 31, is a five-time NBA All-Star who is 13th in league history in three-point percentage. He suffered an ACL tear in the sixth and final game of the 2019 NBA Finals and subsequently missed the entire 2019-20 season. Thompson was set to return for the 2020-21 season, but suffered an Achilles tear about a month ahead of the season's start.

When Thompson returns Sunday, it'll be his first minutes on the court in 941 days.

The Warriors are second in the Western Conference at 29-9, one game behind the Phoenix Suns' 30-8 record.
