Warriors lose despite Steph Curry's 60-point outburst
Steph Curry made it clear Saturday night that he’s still elite. His teammates decidedly are not.
Curry notched the second 60-point game of his career Saturday night, becoming the second-oldest player to score 60. The oldest was Kobe Bryant in the final game of his career in 2016, and the next oldest was…Curry himself, when he scored a career-high 62 points in 2021.
The difference then was that Curry got 21 points from Andrew Wiggins and 17 points from Kelly Oubre in that game. Saturday, Curry’s main support was 17 points from Lester Quinones, playing in his 16th NBA game.
Wiggins left with an ankle injury, while Jonathan Kuminga fouled out after scoring 16 points. Klay Thompson scored 10 points after shooting 4-for-19, including 2-for-13 from three-point range. The Atlanta Hawks won in overtime, 141-134, despite Curry pouring in 30 points and six three-pointers in the final 17 minutes.
In the 4th quarter and OT, Curry scored 30 of the Warriors’ 45 points, including 21 straight at one point. He simply didn’t have any offensive help, despite 15 points and 11 rebounds from rookie Brandin Podziemski.
How did Curry score so much on the second night of a back-to-back? He may have been inspired by his pre-game meeting with actress Lindsay Lohan. Maybe Curry is a big fan of “Mean Girls”?
But with Curry’s lack of support, the playoffs might be a pipe dream for the sharpshooter and his Warriors.
