Warriors president says team is open to trading first-round pick

The Warriors are expected to have a high lottery pick in this year's NBA draft and Bob Myers, the team's president of basketball operations, says that they will "consider" trading their pick in order to bolster the roster.

"Yeah, we're going to consider all that," Myers told NBC Sports Bay Area. "Now, I don't know if the headline is going to be that we're trading our pick. So, be clear that I said 'consider.'"

The Warriors are in a unique position, as they have a lottery pick without being in the midst of a rebuild. Golden State currently has a 15-50 record, which is the worst in the NBA. The Warriors were expected to struggle after losing Kevin Durant in free agency and Klay Thompson tearing his ACL in last year's finals.

However, the season went from bad to worse when Steph Curry broke his hand in the fourth game. The two-time MVP returned to the Warriors in early March but the season was shut down shortly after.

While this season was a lost one for the Warriors, they should have a fully healthy roster by the start of next season and may want to add another solid starter rather than adding a rookie who will likely take time to develop.

It's no secret that the Warriors have had their sights set on Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo, but at this point, it's unlikely that even the top lottery pick would be enough to get Milwaukee to trade arguably the best player in the league. Even if they can't land Giannis, the Warriors should be able to get some lucrative offers for a lottery pick.

And if the Warriors decide not to trade their pick, they could use it to add some more depth to their roster with a top rookie like James Wiseman, LaMelo Ball or Anthony Edwards.
