Watch: Anthony Davis has interesting response to questions about Russell Westbrook
With the short-lived Russell Westbrook era with the Los Angeles Lakers now over, his former teammates are seemingly ready to move on.
Speaking with reporters Wednesday about Westbrooks's fit with the Clippers, Lakers star big man Anthony Davis went out of his way to dodge the questions. Davis didn't say anything negative about Westbrook, but none of his words could be confused for compliments.
"I'm not part of that team," Davis said. "I have no idea what their locker room is like, what their chemistry is like."
When pressed again, Davis doubled down on not knowing much about how Westbrook, a player he suited up alongside for the past two seasons, would acclimate in a new home.
"Honestly, I don't really watch the Clippers like that — I have three kids," Davis said. "I know they got rid of John [Wall] and Reggie [Jackson], so it's another point guard for them. I'm not sure how T Lue and the coaching staff will utilize him, but I'm pretty sure he's happy to stay in L.A. I'm not sure."
On the surface, Davis' comments might not come off negatively, but they're drastically different from his statements about Westbrook following the trade to the Utah Jazz.
Earlier this month, Davis revealed that he and Westbrook became close earlier in their careers after once sharing the same agent. Davis also dismissed the misconceptions about Westbrook and commended him for how he conducted himself in L.A. amid the pressures.
"Outside of all the basketball stuff or what people say about him on the floor, he's a really good dude," Davis told reporters via Kyle Goon of SCNG.
For whatever reason, Davis' tune changed over the last few weeks. Regardless, Westbrook is onto a new challenge, and his latest stint in Los Angeles could go better than his first.
For one, several players, including Paul George and Marcus Morris, campaigned for the Clippers to bring Westbrook aboard. Also, he's reunited with George, with whom he played some of the best basketball of his career during their two seasons with the Oklahoma City Thunder.
