Watch: Anthony Edwards submits his Dunk of the Year tape
They say basketball isn’t a contact sport. John Collins might disagree after Anthony Edwards went over and through him for a vicious jam.
Edwards got the ball on a cut to the basket and showed off his impressive athleticism by launching himself for the impressive dunk. Adding insult to injury, Collins also got called for a shooting foul on the play. Adding more insult, an arena full of his own fans gasped in astonishment.
Before his monster dunk, Edwards had nine points. He finished with 32, with 21 of his points coming in the last 18 minutes. Even after appearing to injure his hand with the sheer force of his dunk energy.
That didn’t hamper him from icing Minnesota’s 114-104 win with two big jumpers down the stretch after Utah got within four points.
After the game, Edwards agreed with most of the reactions online after his decimation of Collins, calling it the “best dunk of my career.”
Edwards has stepped up in a big way since the Timberwolves lost Karl-Anthony Towns to injury two weeks ago in a game against Portland. Since then, he’s averaged 31.3 points and Minnesota has gone 4-2, with one of their losses happening in OT.
His incredible hops preserved one of those wins when he soared to block an Aaron Nesmith shot. Edwards jumped so high he hit his head on the rim.
Minnesota is still in contention for the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference, but only because Edwards has jammed them in there.
