Former 2020 Los Angeles Lakers champion Dwight Howard, most recently with LA during the team's ill-fated 2021-22 season, has been thriving at his new basketball home, with Taiwan's Taoyuan Leopards. Granted, the team itself has had an erratic season thus far, including at one point a 10-game losing streak, but Howard has been putting up excellent individual numbers and pushing his game in interesting directions following his 18-year NBA career.
Recently named a 2023 All-Star for Taiwan's T1 League, Howard also opted to participate in a three-point shootout exhibition. Though he wasn't incredibly effective, he did nail a few triples:
All told, he scored 15 points in the competition and nailed one moneyball triple.
Howard played with your Los Angeles Lakers at three very different junctures in his Hall of Fame-bound career. First, Lakers team president Mitch Kupchak traded for Howard's services in 2012-13, while he was still an All-Star. He pouted his way through one year on a frustrating club that also featured Hall of Famers Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol. Howard returned on a non-guaranteed veteran's minimum deal in 2019-20, now a role player with a questionable team chemistry track record. He proved himself to be a valuable role player, and extended his NBA career an extra two careers.
During his final stint with Los Angeles, in 2021-22, Howard was essentially a less helpful, less athletic version of his 2019-20 self, though at least he was still more helpful than DeAndre Jordan.
Across the lengthy and decorated duration of his career, Howard has taken a grand total of 103 threes, making 22. It's fascinating to see him work on that skillset now.
