Watch: Hasan Minhaj explains 'Why I Love Giannis'

During an appearance on J.J. Redick "The Old Man And The Three" podcast, comedian and Sacramento Kings fan Hasan Minhaj delivered an impromptu monologue about why the first NBA jersey he buys for his son will be a Giannis Antetokounmpo, and why Giannis is "the immigrant uncle that the country needs, that NBA needs, and the world needs right now."

Minhaj, whose special "The King's Jester" recently debuted on Netflix, described to Redick how his own first jersey was a Houston Rockets Hakeem Olajuwon, both because he was about to win the NBA MVP and the title in 1994, and because Olajuwon prayed at the local mosque and talked to the kids when the team visited Sacramento that season.

But Minhaj's reasons for choosing Giannis - the "immigrant" uncle were fivefold. "He is cheap to a fault. He is loyal. He is family-oriented. He is humble. And he has an amazing attitude."

Minhaj went on to clarify what he meant. Antetokounmpo delighted in exploring cheap American food like corn dogs, smoothies, and funnel cakes. Some players get famous and discover a love of fancy wine. Giannis discovered dunking Oreos in milk.

The Greek Freek's delightful cheapness was in play when he won the NBA title and celebrated by ordering a 50-piece at Chick-Fil-A, to commemorate his 50-point performance in the Finals clincher. "People are bottle popping, going to Magic City," said Minhaj. "This dude's going to Chick-Fil-A."

"In the post-Steph, post-LeBron era, the immigrants are going to run the league," Minhaj continued. "Joker. Luka. Giannis. Embiid. All of them: Horrible tunnel pics, amazing games."

He went on to theorize that all those immigrant players - "my green card assassins" - had the correct "Indian immigrant uncle energy" to take over the NBA.

Still, Minhaj acknowledged one flaw in his argument, which is the loyal, family-oriented, terrible-dressing and American-born Steph Curry also fits the description he loves. But perhaps having domestic "immigrant uncle energy" is just part of what makes Steph Curry special. Minhaj's son, however, will be rocking the No. 34 Bucks jersey.
