Watch: Jalen Green shows off hops ahead of Dunk Contest
Most NBA rookies will use All-Star Weekend as a chance to get some extra rest during the seven-day break, as it provides the first chance for the latest generation of players to recharge their batteries after the initial grind of the regular season.
Jalen Green isn't like most rookies, though.
Green has a busy schedule ahead of him during the All-Star Break, as he will compete in both the Rising Stars event and the Slam Dunk Contest this weekend. He gave fans a sneak peek at what he brings to the table as a dunker in the Rockets' final game before the break Wednesday against the Suns.
Just a few minutes into the first quarter, Chris Paul looked for DeAndre Ayton off a pick-and-roll but saw his pass deflected away by Alperen Sengun. Eric Gordon came up with it and quickly passed it ahead to Dennis Schroeder on the fast break, with Green trailing not far behind from the opposite direction.
With Jae Crowder closing in on him, Schroeder turned his head and lobbed up the ball to Green, who took off just barely inside the free throw line, snared the ball out of the air and flushed it down with his head almost hitting the rim.
Green is averaging 14.4 points -- fifth among qualified rookies entering Wednesday -- 3.2 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game this season. The Rockets selected him second overall in last summer's Draft out of the G-League Ignite team.
The All-Star Weekend festivities will begin Friday with the new-look Rising Stars event, with Green set to represent Team Worthy. The Slam Dunk Contest will follow as part of All-Star Saturday Night.
