As some pointed out on social media, Redick's comments are notable because the former Duke star played under Rivers for four seasons with the Los Angeles Clippers from 2013-17. The longtime sharpshooter is also set to replace the 62-year-old on ESPN and ABC's coverage of the NBA Finals later in the year.

Rivers was hired as the Bucks leader in late January, giving him a chance to coach two of the best players in the game in Damian Lillard and Giannis Antetokounmpo. It also gave him another opportunity to fix his playoff legacy.

The former one-time All-Star point guard made the NBA Finals twice during his tenure with the Boston Celtics and won the Larry O'Brien Trophy in 2008. Rivers has had 16 consecutive winning seasons since his title in Beantown, has 1,100 career regular-season victories and his 111 playoff wins are fourth-most all-time.

After seven years with the Clippers where the team never made it past the second round of the postseason, he joined the Philadelphia 76ers. Rivers was fired from his job in Philly last May after three seasons, all of which ended in playoff berths but also second-round exits in the tournament.

The Sixers were eliminated by Boston last spring after going up 3-2 in their second-round set. The defeat against the Celtics was Rivers' fifth straight Game 7 loss, his 10th career setback in a Game 7 and he hasn't made it past the conference semifinals since 2012.

When he joined Milwaukee last month, the Bucks were 30-13 and in second place in the Eastern Conference. The team has made the playoffs seven seasons in a row, a stretch that includes one championship and a trip to the Eastern Conference Finals as well.

The Bucks went 3-7 heading into the All-Star break under Rivers and are now in third place, sitting 8.5 games behind the conference-leading Celtics.
