Watch: Steph Curry gives CP3 a history lesson
Steph Curry and Chris Paul have battled for years. But from 2015 on, Curry has had the upper hand.
In a physical game between the Warriors and Suns, Curry got fouled by Paul and scored through the contact.
Afterward he had choice words for CP3. Namely, "This ain't 2014 no more."
Curry was referring to the 2014 first-round series between the Warriors and Paul's old team, the Los Angeles Clippers. The Clippers won in seven games, in part due to their superior physicality.
The Warriors never met the Clippers in the playoffs again on their way to three titles and five straight NBA Finals appearances. But Curry and Golden State beat Paul's Houston Rockets in 2018 and 2019, though Paul got hurt during the 2018 series.
Their relationship goes back even further than that. Curry used to attend Paul's elite camp. The two of them even trained together before Curry's rookie year on a Paul family vacation to Disney World. Now they've been rivals for a decade.
Former Clipper JJ Redick, who announced the game, disputed the idea that it was a rivalry. When play-by-play man Dave Pasch mentioned the "great Clippers-Warriors rivalry," Redick answered, "It wasn't really a rivalry. They just won a bunch of championships and we lost in the second round every year."
Curry and Paul might renew their rivalry in the playoffs, as the teams are now fourth and fifth in the Western Conference. So it might indeed be 2014 again.
At the very least, Golden State's Andre Iguodala, the league's second-oldest player, threw down a dunk like he was nine years younger.
