Watch: Trae Young nutmegs defender, drops 37 and 14 in win

Trae Young showed Wednesday night why he's on track to be an All-Star starter.

Young logged his 21st double-double of the season, finishing with 37 points and 14 assists to lead the Hawks to a 134-122 win over the Timberwolves.

Atlanta fell behind early, trailing Minnesota 42-26 after the first quarter. This was in part due to Young's shaky start, as he didn't score at all in the first 12 minutes.

His first points didn't come until the 4:22 mark in the second quarter, when he knocked down all three free throws after being fouled behind the arc. He hit two more free throws minutes later before finally making his first field goal with just a hair over a minute left in the half. The Hawks trailed 73-61 at the break.

Young got things going quickly in the third, hitting two stepback threes to open up the scoring and trim the Timberwolves' lead to six. He and the Hawks really got it going down the stretch though; Young poured in 23 of Atlanta's 45 points in the quarter, and together they headed into the fourth up 106-93.

He sat for the start of the fourth quarter, but entered midway through with the lead still at 13. The Timberwolves clawed back into it to make it a six-point game with just over a minute to play, but Young wasn't going to let his team lose.

Young hit both shots after drawing a foul at the 1:01 mark to extend the lead to eight. After a D'Angelo Russell turnover, Young then took the ball in transition, nutmegged it through the legs of Jaylen Nowell, and drove to the rim for a layup that put the game on ice.

Young's 37 and 14 led all players in both categories. Russell scored 31 for Minnesota while De'Andre Hunter added 22 for Atlanta.
